CONSTRUCTION
I have constructed a range of garments throughout my studies, including a corseted dress, a basque and knicker set, a bikini top, and a sportswear set. Through this work, I have learned how to pattern-cut effectively, conduct fit analysis, operate industrial machines, and handle challenging fabrics.
Met gala corset dress
This dress was created as part of my second-year final project, that was inspired by the Met Gala, and was constructed from coutil, mesh, satin, microfibre, and approximately 200 eyelets. Its development involved a wide range of technical processes and skills, including pattern cutting, fit analysis, bonding, hand-gathering, print development, dye-sublimation printing, and free-motion embroidery.
Corset
This corset was constructed as part of my first second-year module using coutil, boning, eyelets, and a busk. Through this project, I learned how to insert a busk at the centre front, create boning channels, inset eyelets, as well as how to work effectively with stiff, challenging fabrics.
Basque & Knicker set
This basque and knicker set was also constructed during my first second-year module and taught me how to insert cups, apply wire casing, and attach hook-and-eye tape and fold-over elastic. The materials used include foam, laminated all-over lace, powermesh, stretch galloon lace, stretch chiffon, cotton jersey and picot-edge elastic.
Bikini top
This bikini top was constructed during my first second-year module and taught me how to construct a center front reinforced with denier, attach bunny ties and wirecasing, and work with a twin-needle coverstitch machine
Sports bra
This sports bra was constructed in my first second-year module, allowing me to understand cup construction, how to insert Y band elastic and assemble straps with rings and sliders.
Sweaty Betty Sportswear set
This sportswear set was constructed in one of my first-year modules as part of an external client project with Sweaty Betty, where I was awarded 2nd place for my designs and 3rd place for my construction. This project taught me skills such as piping, placement print digital dye sublimation, foiling and gathering.
